Important Guidelines for Growing Cannabis for Medical Use
Patients growing cannabis for medical use must be individually registered and adhere to specific grow site limitations and possession laws.
Key Points for Medical Cannabis Patients It is important to understand that a grow site cannot act as a caregiver. Individual Registration Required : Each patient must be individually registered with the Department of Health's Medical Cannabis Registry Program. Grow Site Limitations : A grow site is simply a physical location where cannabis is grown. It cannot serve as a caregiver or provide cannabis to patients who are not registered to grow at that specific location. Patient-Specific Growing : Only the patients specifically registered to a grow site may possess and use cannabis grown at that location. Caregiver vs. Grow Site : A caregiver is a person designated to help a patient obtain and use medical cannabis. A grow site is a location. These are not interchangeable. Upcoming Changes : Please be aware of the upcoming changes to Hawaii's medical cannabis laws relating to caregivers and the personal cultivation of cannabis for medical use, effective December 31, 2024. Important Reminders Patients must comply with all state laws regarding the amount of cannabis that may be possessed (adequate supply). Grow sites must be registered with the Department of Health. Cannabis grown at a registered grow site may only be used by patients registered to that site. Sharing or distributing medical cannabis, even among registered patients, may violate state law.
